In a deeply disturbing incident from Barasat, a woman has alleged that she was brutally assaulted by her own family members over a property dispute. The incident took place inside her residence in the Navpalli Park Maidan area (Ward 5) of Barasat Municipality, and a video of the assault has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage.
In the viral footage, the woman is seen being slapped, kicked, and punched repeatedly. Shockingly, the alleged attackers are none other than her own brother, sister-in-law, and grandmother. The attack is believed to have stemmed from a disagreement over property rights following the recent death of the victim's mother.
The woman had returned from Dubai, where she runs a business, after the passing of her mother in a Chennai hospital last month. Soon after her return to Barasat, tensions erupted inside the household regarding property ownership and asset transfer. She alleges that the assault was carried out to force her into giving up her claim on the family property.
Adding to the gravity of the matter, the woman also claimed that her mother too had been subjected to repeated abuse by the same family members in the past. According to the victim, this ongoing abuse may have contributed to her mother’s deteriorating health and eventual death.
Local police have begun investigating the matter after the video went viral, and statements are being recorded. As per sources, the police are also examining past complaints or medical records that could support the victim’s claims about her mother’s alleged abuse.
The Barasat case has triggered a wave of concern across West Bengal, especially due to the involvement of elderly family members and the woman’s NRI status. Activists have demanded swift justice and stronger protective measures for victims of domestic and inheritance-related violence.
